Easy recipe for honey-roasted peanuts that is a healthy substitute for commercial versions with sketchy additives.

healthy honey roasted peanuts in a white ramekin

Honey-roasted peanuts are a popular commercial snack. They are especially prevalent in airports as a semi-healthy munchie while waiting to board your plane or in flight.

However, if you’ve ever checked the ingredients, you were likely in for a surprise (and sadly, not a good one).

High fructose corn syrup with fake “natural” flavors is a common substitute for real honey.

Even in the few brands that do contain some actual honey, processing heats the honey which destroys the beneficial properties anyway 😞

If you enjoy honey-roasted peanuts, you will be delighted to know how easy it is to make them yourself at home.

Then, simply fill a travel container with your DIY variety and tuck it into your carry-on. This way, you are not tempted to buy the fake versions in the airport!

Serving Suggestions

You really need to eat these homemade honey peanuts with a spoon. So, be sure to pack a travel bamboo utensil set too!

Note that using soaked peanuts that are lightly salted during the dehydration process is ideal.

However, if time is a factor, using organic roasted nuts lightly seasoned with sea salt is an excellent stand-in. It is certainly a huge improvement over commercially roasted peanuts at the airport or convenience stores.

Why use roasted peanuts instead of activated, which reduces the phytics?

Sounds yummy, but use Organic Jungle Peanuts because they don’t have the aflatoxins in them. They are delicious. They are easy to find online (Nuts.com) but probably not local.
