Mom versus Fast Food (video demo)

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

fast food signI almost didn’t do this video.

I honestly thought it would be too wacky and out of the box for some readers to handle.

My change of heart occurred when one of my children said, “Mom, you HAVE to do that video”.

Out of the mouths of babes.

So here I am posting a video about the best trick I know for teaching your kids about the dangers of fast food and hopefully keeping them far far away from it forever – even once they are out of the house and making their own decisions.

While this trick won’t work for older children, if your kids are still quite young, it should work well.   My three kids want absolutely nothing to do with fast food and that includes my teenager who has more freedom away from his parents and has the opportunity to indulge if he chose to.

So here it is.    What do you think?  Too wacky or totally on target?

In a pinch, I’ve taken my toddler girl to a handful of these restaurants. She either won’t eat the food, or she’ll pick off the breading before eating a chicken strip. She despises any msg-laden sauce. I’m learning to pack simple snacks like cheese and fruit, or a bottle of raw milk to curb hunger till we can get to real, nourishing food.

It’s so odd, But when I was a child, My parents tried to pawn off fast food on my siblings and myself when they were in a hurry. They were more worried about getting us fed quick so that they could get to what they wanted to do.

We were repulsed by that food like product. Our parents were frustrated that we didn’t want to eat it. It was actually nauseating!

I think that our bodies were warning us.

Thanks Sara! My kids and I have these conversations as well – but they usually occur when a fast food commercial comes on the TV while my husband is watching a baseball or football or basketball game. At first we would tell them that that food is gross and really disgusting, and then at some point it occurred to me that in the future, they might actually eat fast food, and they might like the way it tastes – then what about our credibility with our kids?!

Now we talk about how even if tastes good, it has a yucky and disgusting impact on your body and mental and physical health; that is will make you weak, and it could make you sick.

    They are totally on board!

Yes it was wacky and it did make me laugh, in a good way. I too had never bought my two girls a McDonalds totally unheard of 30 years ago and I was considered quite mad by my family, friends and my husband at the time, we are now divorced. Even though their dad would try to take them, both my girls have grown up healthy knowing and understanding that this kind of food is junk. Unlike you I didn’t want to waste my time or money driving through to get the toy and throw the food, that would have been too wacky even for me back then, but again as mothers we should be confident to do what works for our family. Love your work.
