proof of healed cavities

The compelling article written by Dr. Judene Smith DDS about minimally invasive dentistry and how it ignores strong scientific evidence about how cavities heal really brought out the drill-happy dentists in droves! It seems they are unaware of the study published in 2019 in the peer-reviewed journal Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology that demonstrated over a 7 year period that no drill dentistry works.

As anecdotal evidence to the emerging scientific consensus on the matter, I am presenting a series of photographs sent to me by Rami Nagel, author of the paradigm-shattering book Cure Tooth Decay.

*Another photographed case of resolving cavities is found in this article more pictures of remineralizing caries.

The photos are of an 18-month-old child from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rikki, the boy’s mother, took these photos as her son’s cavities remineralized over a period of 8 weeks after commencing a dietary program that included supplementing with unprocessed cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil.  It is important to note that regular cod liver oil found in health food stores will not produce the same spectacular results you see in these photos. Why? These are processed and fortified with synthetic vitamins that are not effective.

The sad truth is that when a parent brings in a child with significant tooth decay, toxic, IQ lowering fluoride treatments, drilling/filling or even crowns and root canals are recommended on baby teeth!  These treatments which can be incredibly expensive are not necessary as in a majority of cases, children’s teeth will quickly remineralize with dietary intervention. Adult teeth with cavities will heal in a similar fashion as long as they have never been drilled or compromised by dental treatments in the past.

What Did This Child Eat That Caused These Cavities?

Possibly the most shocking thing about this story is that this toddler was not eating a junk food diet when these cavities formed.  He was still breastfeeding and eating an all-organic diet. His favorite foods consisted of graham crackers and flaxseed bread.  He also was fond of organic granola bars which he ate regularly.

The problem with store-bought whole grain products is that they are high in antinutrients like phytic acid that block mineral absorption. These foods are not a good choice for regular consumption by growing children.

Rikki’s son also ate fruits and vegetables and organic eggs although his mother avoided butter and milk thinking they were bad for him. After reading Cure Tooth Decay, she realized that butter and milk from grass-fed cows are very healing and strengthening for teeth and bones. Grass-fed dairy also counteracts some (but not all) of the negative effects of the toxins and anti-nutrients in processed grain products from the store.

Foods That Healed this Child’s Teeth

Rikki implemented 4 major changes to her son’s diet in order to achieve the results you see below.

  1. She cut out grains and sugars. This reduced the mineral depletion from the commercial grains and sugar.
  2. She started giving him Green Pasture’s Royal Blend (a combination product of high vitamin cod liver oil and butter oil) which gave her son the needed fat-soluble vitamins to remineralize his teeth.
  3. Her son now gets unpasteurized dairy regularly including real raw milk cheese and fermented vegetables like pickles.
  4. Their family uses butter liberally, and Rikki makes homemade broth and soups from pasture-raised chicken.

Unfortunately, the earliest picture is of the teeth after 1 week on the new dietary protocol described in Cure Tooth Decay.  There wasn’t a control picture available of what the cavities looked like before any changes were made. Even still, the visual healing that takes place is compelling and should give every parent hope that cavity problems can be dealt with at home with simple dietary changes in the majority of cases.

Will these dietary interventions be easy? Most definitely not if a conventional diet is being followed. For those already eating a whole foods-based diet in their home, the changes are much easier to accomplish. Far and away the most difficult change to implement for cavity-prone children especially if they attend school is eliminating processed grain-based foods.

I would have liked to have seen what the dentists had to say if they refuted this. It’s a shame you had to delete their comments. I’m assuming there were actual expletives in them; otherwise, are you not just removing differing viewpoints? Thanks for posting.

Any suggestions on how to remineralize teeth when your toddler has a dairy allergy and cannot have raw milk or butter?

Many of the cultures studied by Dr Weston A Price didn’t consume dairy, but exhibited remarkably formed dental arches and lack of dental caries. I image you will have to get your toddler their fat soluble vitamins and minerals from other sources. 🙂

Hi Sarah, I was wondering if you know if the cavity pictured goes through to the dentin?

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

Wow!! Just amazing! So comforting to know there is hope for the so-called hereditary “soft teeth”.

I am extremely disappointed, but not surprised, at the blatant attacks, threats and accusations that occurs when anyone expresses an opinion that is different from the popular dogma that is prescribed by the dental and medical communities. To those dental and medical practitioners who deny patients the right to know and to be informed, shame on you. You are not only doing the public deliberate harm, but you are discrediting yourselves and your profession. Teeth can and do re-mineralize. It’s not rocket science. Sadly, there is a growing public opinion of distrust against the medical and dental professions that is self-inflicted by the profession. Good luck and I wish you well.

We ask for proof, not photoshopped images. That means a study under controlled conditions to verify the claims. All the oil pulling in the literature is sesame oil. There is absolutely nothing about fermented cod liver oil. If this is as miraculous as claimed verification should be a truly simple matter.

Your dentist will know who I am.

BTW, your readers should know that oil pulling can be associated with lipoid pneumonia. That could be a nasty surprise for them given your endorsement of the process

I personally feel like oil pulling is a crock, but I did want to point out that I think you’ve confused the purpose of the FCLO here. It’s meant as a nutritional supplement that is fully ingested. I know that it has personally helped my family with other health problems, including balancing hormones and improving our moods. Anecdotal, but that’s evidence enough for us.

As for the re-mineralization? I’m keeping an open mind about it and if I personally see results then that would be proof enough for me. Fortunately, none of our children have ever had cavities (even the 13 year old I can’t get to ever brush his teeth) so I have nothing to test with at this point. Their diet fluctuates between pretty good and not the best depending on how busy we are so I can’t say it’s that. I can say it’s probably a combination of no soda, rarely any juice, and no toothpaste ever. Baking soda or water is it for us.

As for the photos, well, I don’t believe them because those can be photoshopped. I would want to see this with my own eyes.

There are remineralizing toothpastes available now in conventional dentists’ offices. My dentist offers it and she is NOT a new-age-woo-woo health nut.

My daughter had a very small cavity on a tooth when she went in once for an x-ray. The next time she got an x-ray it was gone.

It’s kind of a given that enamel sometimes wears away, especially if you have a lot of roughage in your diet, but dentin is not ever supposed to soften up. If it does, it’s not getting enough minerals and yes, that can be reversed. The only thing you can’t do is grow back your enamel. Once it’s gone, that’s it.

And you would know all that if dental school were anything but a drug-pushing enterprise. I’m half-tempted to call you a quack, but that would be harsh.

Teeth have fluid circulating in them too, in the dentin. This is at least partially mediated by the influence of the parotid saliva glands. Also known science, go look it up. The higher the circulation rate, the less likely you are to suffer tooth decay. Insulin levels affect how the parotid glands work, which in turn can affect that circulation rate–a very likely candidate to explain the link between tooth decay and diabetes.

Don’t expect you to know all *that*, but again, go look it up.

Why didn’t the white spots heal? Those are early cavities as well. How did she get a single carious lesion to heal and nothing else?

BTW, Had Mom simply cleaned the child’s teeth every day this would not have even developed. A front tooth is the absolute easiest place in the mouth to clean.

Your dentist will know who I am.

You can have absolutely filthy teeth and never get a cavity. Dental caries are symptoms of malnutrition, even on a mild level. Teeth are living organs and can break down in the face of inadequate nutrition just like anything else.

I am currently doing all these things for breatfeeding my twins, but will the bone broth, taking butter oil fermented cod liver oil blend, eating butter and milk and eggs from grass fed cows/chicken re mineralized my teeth? I have metal wires in my jaw bone due to having corrective jaw surgery while I was a teen. I also have mercury silver fillings and some crowns (white) in the molars. I have not had my teeth cleaned by a dentist since early 2012 because I was pregnant and now nursing. I stopped using regular toothpaste and now brush with alum free baking soda and water pick along with clove or peppermint young living oils. I also sometimes oil pull with coconut oil. Does anyone know if the metal in my mouth prevents my teeth from re mineralizing? Thank you!

The way remineralizing works is you have to still have the tooth material present. If it’s been drilled away, it will be difficult to impossible to fill back in through natural processes. A cavity is not always a hole; sometimes it’s just a soft spot in the tooth, which is one reason the dentist has to use a drill. Those soft spots are where remineralization most often occurs.

I wouldn’t worry about making the fillings go away at this point. Just take better care of yourself, which it sounds like you’re already working on, and prevent any *future* decay.
