State Threatens to Take Baby Over Homemade Goat Milk Formula

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

Baby thriving on homemade goat milk formula

Warning to all parents who use a homemade baby formula recipe for their children instead of feeding them toxic, GMO laced commercial formula.

DON’T tell a conventionally minded doctor it is made with raw milk else your baby might end up in foster care!

This is the nightmare Alorah Gellerson of Brooklin, Maine is experiencing right now because she made the mistake of telling her doctor about the homemade goats milk formula she proudly and carefully makes for her healthy, happy, three-month-old son Carson.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) quickly responded when the doctor reported Alorah and that’s when things got messy.

The state came in and threatened to take Carson away and put him in foster care unless Alorah followed DHHS orders to go and have the baby examined by a doctor.  Unbelievably, DHHS also mandated an overnight hospital stay and a switch back to store-bought GMO commercial formula.

Despite complying with every single DHHS demand, Gellerson, who receives state benefits, is still being harassed with threats of foster care for her son.  “I hope this all goes away. It’s been so terrible and hard on us. We’re just trying to live our lives and they keep bothering us. I just want it to be all over”, she said.

Tania Allen, Gellerson’s mother added,

It’s so frustrating. She’s a great mom. The baby has a great dad too and they love this baby very much and they would never do anything to hurt him and if we thought the formula was harming him, we would not do that.

DHHS refused to comment and instead directed inquiries to its website for the procedures they follow, one of which is from the USDA which states that goat milk is not recommended for infants because of inadequate quantities of certain vitamins.

Jack Forbush, DO, of The Osteopathic Center for Family Medicine in Hampden, Maine disagrees with the state saying,

I don’t know what’s really driving it other than perhaps some different cultural belief system. I’ve got plenty of kids in my practice that have been given goat’s milk, for example, and they’re growing and developing fine.

The Weston A. Price Foundation concurs with Dr. Forbush’s assessment. Homemade formula from goat or cow milk is much better for baby than commercial formula as this chart listing the nutrients contained in goat milk formula illustrates.

State Violation of Parental Rights Becoming More Common

This is not the first time a parental judgment call regarding the health of a child has landed a parent in hot water with the State.  This type of violation of basic parental rights is becoming more and more common.

Recall the story of Alex and Anna Nikolayev just a few months ago who had their baby forcibly removed from their home (with the entire assault captured on home video) simply because they took their baby to another hospital for a second opinion regarding their child’s heart condition. In both cases, the children were eventually returned to the parents, but not before much grief and stress were endured by the family.

    Re “change government”
Yes, we have to challenge the power of Big Ag and Big Pharma to deny us healthy choices through their power over the FDA and the state departments of agriculture. Only an informed electorate can bring the pressure needed on every level of government.
    Thanks, WAPF!

But evicting the Republican majority from the House will enable an end to the medical research stifling sequester and to allow deserving Hispanics a place at the table.
We do need a few for their noise.

Benghazi?– terrorism doesn’t respect our incumbent administration choices. 9-11, for example. IRS?–a dis-proven flap over nothing. NSA?– unfortunate snooping policy more Republican than Democratic.

We have a great system and I look forward to President Hilary Clinton.and a Democratic landslide in 2016!

she needs to invest in learning how to fight back legally… I would get a doctor’s report stating that my son/daughter had no health issues…

Then I would learn (extremely fast) how to type up a criminal complaint against the doctor, the CPS person and every body’s boss and their boss..

I would also sue each spouse connect to the person above (they benefit from their pay)
I would bar grieve any judge, attorney or person that was in the legal profession…

Then I would make sure to sue them civilly for emotional damages to my baby and my self and my family….

    PUSH BACK LEGALLY AND HARD…

I would make it my life profession to bankrupt each person that was involved…. I would make sure they lost businesses, homes and they would know to never screw with me or mine again… ALL DONE LEGALLY….

So glad my boys are 27 and 34! Both of them were allergic to cow’s milk and soy formula. When my oldest was a baby, I had a friend who raised goats and I was able to buy plain, good old-fashioned, goat milk! My doctor may not have liked it but there wasn’t anything he could do about it at the time (thankfully). My son has always been very healthy..

My cousin had her children seized by DHS in New York State a year ago. She’s rather young and it seems no matter what hoops she jumps through they don’t want to give them back. The kids aren’t doing well either-too thin, sad, etc. the 5 year old just wants to come home. My aunt-their grandma-doesn’t have the money for an attorney. I’m going to tell her to look into HLSDA

If there’s a marriage license, CANCEL IT! It’s a contract with the STATE, which gives any issue from the (corporate merger) “marriage” to the STATE. The marriage license gives them jurisdiction and ownership of the children (issue). The STATE considers itself to be the parent (parens patriae). Also, it’d be better if there weren’t a birth certificate, but that’s probably too late. Just a suggestion based on the experience of others – NOT “legal advice.”

I thought of a better, more reasoned answer to the rugged individualist who blames all government and all bureaucrats for the idiocy of some.
Governments and bureaucrats are instrumentalities that are responsive to the sources of power in society.
Big Ag and Big Pharma exert big power. They hate raw milk. They hate anything that competes with their profitable commodities. That includes human mothers’ milk.

The answer is to change government, not to abolish it. Hooray for the Weston A. Price Foundation and its wonderful influence for change!

It has nothing to do with Obama. He has enough on his hands, fighting Republican idiocy and obstructionism.

“It has nothing to do with Obama. He has enough on his hands, fighting Republican idiocy and obstructionism.”

rrriiiggghhtttt, and Benghahzi, IRS, and NSA. But it’s the idiocy republicans, rrriigghhtttt….

We have had a successful republic for 236 years, we don’t need to change it
Harvey. We need to downsize it. If you think our founders are so wrong maybe you
      should go live somewhere else.

It’s only going to get worse with Obamacare, as Nikki from above says…..wake up Obama voters…..

I can’t wait ’til the Affordable Care Act takes effect in your state, Marissa! In NY and CA insurance premiums have dropped by HALF. Millions of people have already gotten refunds from their for-profit insurance companies because they failed to meet the new requirement that they spend at least 80% of premium income on actual HEALTH CARE, not CEO salaries and bureaucrats whose only job seems to be to deny coverage.

So, I look forward to hearing from you as the important and welcome reforms take effect in your community. Just remember, Republicans called Social Security and Medicare “welfare” (although we, you know, PAY for them.) They are just as wrong about this. ALL the other successful developed countries have a national health care system that their citizens love, and it benefits their economies by drastically lowering the costs of health care. It’s a scandal we’re so far behind the rest of the world, but thank God for President Obama standing strong and getting this passed. We can hardly wait, here in VA!

Obama has Tom Vlasack as Secretary of Agriculture and the FDA head is Michael R. Taylor…..both ex-Monsanto. I say that’s about as ’embedded’ as you can get.

Time to update Dem vs. Repub: they both have been paid off. EVIDENCE IS ALL AROUND US!

Around the world more people drink goats milk than cows milk. According to the late Dr. Bernard Jensen and other studies raw goats milk is structurally and chemically close to human Mothers Breast milk. Goats feed off of the herbs and grasses and do very well free range in open pastures. Cows how ever today are often fed GMO grains and corn that is not their normal diet . So what milk is better for the human baby ? Holistic Chef Barry

Wake up Obama lovers. When you let the state be your mother this is what you get… What we all get. We need to defend our liberties. All of them. Not just the ones we like. We have the constitutional right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, private property, the keeping and bearing of arms, free speech, etc… You give up one and they’ll take another.

This crap has been going on long before 2008. President Obama has nothing to do with the state agencies butting into the lives of families and seizing their children (or threatening to) for ignorant and ridiculous reasons.

I agree with everything in your comment, except the first sentence. This is not the fault of one person, who happens to be the President for the past 5 years.

    • Bianca Bradley

      Aug 11, 2013 at 11:01 pm

No it’s the fault of the people who live in the states and don’t force their legislatures to reign in the state agencies. Maine isn’t the only state where CPS, DHHS, and etc like to run over parental rights.

    • Rose

      Aug 12, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Good point, and how many “red” states have child welfare divisions, health departments, etc… hmm, all? – I have been appalled to learn in Kansas, where the many people who trumpet the horn of individual rights and liberty when it comes to gun ownership are the same people who knee-jerk against people who don’t want their children vaccinated. Where is critical thinking?

    • Nikki

      Aug 12, 2013 at 8:24 pm

Agreed. However my point is not that it’s ALL Obama’s fault but that he is a reflection of those that put him into power. We have a generation of “useful idiots” who have forfeited their liberties for a false sense of security. And yes, republicans are guilty too. They have capitulated on the foundational principles of constitutional government and some of us have blindly trusted a party that has helped to lead this country astray. We ALL need to repent for sinning against a Holy God and abandoning the biblical principles our forefathers fought and died for. True liberty is found in Christ and His law, NOT man’s self fabricated humanist law. The state will never replace father, mother or God… Try as it may.

    • Melinda

      Aug 14, 2013 at 1:32 pm

Yes, Nikki, and that’s just ONE reason I’m glad and proud to have such a good Christian man as President. He seems to have read and understood a great deal more about the commandments to care for the least of our neighbors than his critics do. What could be more anti-Christian than the hateful mantra of “me first” and greed, greed, greed?

I’m not sure who you’re calling a “useful idiot,” but I’ll try to assume it’s not me or anyone else commenting here and not take offense.

Two of my grandchildren were taken from their parents and no matter what the parents did they refused to give them back. Now they have taken the parents rights away and are adopting my grandchildren out to a wealthy couple who could not have children. I tried to get custody of my grandchildren but they found every reason they could come up with to keep me from getting them. The government is taking our children away and selling them to people who can afford to pay off DHS and the judges.

This is actually getting to be quite common, unfortunately. The wealthy feel they are entitled to others’ children, and the state is more than happy to cooperate (for a large fee of course) in taking children that are appealing to the wealthy.

I live in Missouri and I had my 4th child on my 39th birthday and my fifth 13 months later. My children were stolen from me by the Department of Children’s Services in this state as well. They were well cared for and loved and cherished by their brother, sisters, their father and myself. The DCS worker was proven to be lying on the stand in court and our rights were still terminated. We did everything possible to get them back. Nothing worked. They were 5 and 4 when we were terminated. They are 8 and 7 now. I wish I knew of a way to sue the DCS and get my children back but I am afraid it is too late now.
I hope it doesn’t come down to that for this young lady.
On a side note: DCS also took 4 of my grandchildren (my daughter’s) and had the same social worker involved from the beginning.

It’s terrible but I find that the younger parents,, no matter how good they are, get targeted by DHS and older parents, no matter how terrible, are often left alone. If you are young, you can jump through every hoop they put out there and still lose your child for some loophole they will make up if they have to. I’m glad my children are grown because the fear younger parents must face from an institution meant to help and protect is enormous and I don’t think I could do it these days. I pray for this young family and hope that DHS will realize their error and back off.
