Harvard Medical Doctor Warns Against Smart Meters

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

smart meter dangersDr. David Carpenter MD, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a physician who has worked in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and public health for over 18 years, has a few choice words for power companies that are forcing smart meters down the throats of their customers all over the United States.

Dr. Carpenter adamantly insists that there is no evidence whatsoever that smart meters are in any way safe for human beings.  He goes on to say that there is, in fact, ample evidence that demonstrates “convincingly and consistently” that exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR) at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the risk of cancer, damages the nervous system, and adversely affects the reproductive organs.

Dr. Carpenter says that an informed person should demand that they be allowed to keep their analog meter.

The two minute video interview with Dr. Carpenter below is well worth watching.

If you are having smart meters forced upon you where you live, know that California power customers have recently won the battle to keep their analog meters.   There is both an annual and monthly charge for this “inconvenience” to the power utilities, but at least customers now have a choice to opt out where they did not before.

This precedent for opting out in California should make it easier for others with smart meters who don’t want them in other areas of the United States to be able to get their analog meters back as well.

While smart meters reduce workload and increase profitability for the power companies, they do so at the expense of the health of their customers.  Opting out is the only “smart” way to deal with this corporate incursion.

Smart Meter Dangers – Video

Here is what one prominent industry expert who is also a medical doctor has to say about smart meters. Don’t wait until you have a health problem likely caused or exacerbated by these devices. Be proactive to protect your family!

Note that this does not necessarily include the very similar looking AMR devices.

Can’t Get Rid of Your Smart Meter Right Now?

If you live in a rental property or cannot afford to pay the extortion fee charged by utility companies to remove your smart meter and reinstall an analog, I would recommend getting a device called a Smart Meter Guard (check it out here).

It has been proven to cut 98% of the radiation from a smart meter! Better yet, the power company won’t balk if you use it as long as you don’t break the security seal (don’t EVER do this!). My friend Beth from Minnesota emailed me about it recently as she was informed about this new device by a building biologist who works for the company Intentional Environment.

There are now two other less expensive competitive products, the Smart Meter Cover (available here) and the Smart Meter Shield (available here).

Having one of these smart meter safety devices installed at your home is a must.

Actually the video didn’t say how to protect yourself. What do you do if it’s already in and you can’t take it off?

All houses here have them. It’s just how the power companies’ systems are set up. I don’t think there are any other options for us. What I am curious about is what we can do to reduce associated risk, now that we’re stuck with them?

Yes, now that it is on my house, what do I do. Can we buy something to cover it???

Cover it with tin foil. Also make a cap for your head out of it.

We have one. There’s already a monopoly of power companies. We can only use Georgia Power even though a cooperative is closer.

We have Cobb EMC here in GA but I’m not sure if we have a smart meter or not. I’ll be checking on it. I wonder if our neighbors have it, will it affect me??

We have the same thing here. We have one provider, no choices. This past year they built a new power plant in a neighboring state and charged all of their customers in OUR state an extra $25 per month on their bill. We have what’s called balanced billing (our choice because it evens out the winter bill and the summer bill – our summer bills can get pretty high because the air conditioner costs a lot more to run than the furnace – don’t ask me why, it’s the same unit) and when our bill went up I called the company to ask why they did this without consulting us. When you sign up for balanced billing, you choose how much you want to pay each month after they average it out over a 12 month period. The lady at the service desk informed me it was a “no choice” situation. I asked her if there was any other kind with their company! She didn’t like that . . .

They just installed ours. I had no idea what it was. Is there any point in asking to have it removed if the entire neighborhood has smart meters?

Yes, there is. The amount of emf you get from these things goes down greatly with distance. Even a foot makes a difference, and twenty feet makes a huge difference, to the point where it does not effect most people.
Also, people have reported all kinds of problems from the :dirty electricity these things generate, though the power company denies it. While I am no expert, I understand that dirty electricity from these things is a problem only if you actually have a smart meter.

      What is dirty electricity?

    • Laura

      Dec 7, 2012 at 6:12 pm

“dirty” electricity rides along the sixty-cycle sine wave of alternating current power as high frequency voltage transients, between 2-100 khz, and can be found in ground currents returning to utility substations. It’s caused by interruptions in current flow, arcing and sparking. Picture a wave with a nice smooth line and that is an ideal electrical current. Dirty electricity would be a fuzzy line, with many small dips and spikes along the wave length. Ambient dirty electricity couples capacitively to the human body and induces electrical currents in the body. Look for the short book “Dirty Electricity, Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization” by Samuel Milham, MD, MPH, a very experienced epidemiologist in Public Health. It’s quite illuminating, and goes over several measures you can take to reduce your exposure.

The sine wave is the current in an alternating circuit as it comes from a generator, the notching you see is caused by appliances and devices being turned on; the reason circuits have circuit breakers is to prevent notching. It is the capacitors in appliances that prevent notching of current. Also, you can’t induce a current in something with as much resistance as a human body; a magnet can induce a current in a wire, but a hope appliance’s current can’t magnetize a person.
