Meet Me in St. Louis!

[st louis]Have any of you seen the 1944 movie Meet Me in St. Louis starring Judy Garland?   I just love that old movie and have always wanted to go to St. Louis but have never had the opportunity until recently.

Next month, I will be speaking at the Wise Traditions Regional Conference being held in St. Louis on May 19-20, 2012.

I will be giving two detailed presentations at the Conference, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

I’ve been working on one of these presentations all week and I am having so much fun putting it together .. I can’t wait to share all this great info with those of you who are able to attend!

If you live anywhere near St. Louis and can get yourself to this conference, I promise that it will be life changing.   The list of speakers is first rate including Sally Fallon Morell, Kaayla Daniel PhD, Jennifer McManamee NTP, John and Jessica Moody, and John Wood.

Even Dave Wetzel owner of Green Pasture Products will be there to give his amazing talk on the history and benefits of the incredible fermented cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil his family business exclusively produces.

Next to all the incredible information you will learn that is sure to rocket your health and that of your family to the next level, you will almost certainly meet people who live in your area with whom you will form lifelong friendships.   Such relationships are absolutely critical as you attempt to find the best local producers of nutrient dense foods where you live – who you know and word of mouth advertising is everything when it comes to quality local food if you haven’t figured that out yet!

Oh, and the FOOD! Need I say more? The food will be fantastic! No need to drag a cooler with you. You can eat and not worry at this Conference. This is one getaway where you don’t have to worry about sourcing decent chow. That is absolute gold in my book.

So come on out to St. Louis and let’s meet in person!  I like to hang out in the vendor area and chat with everyone between sessions so be sure to come up and introduce yourself and say hello if you see me.   Don’t be shy!

Click on the link below to learn more and go directly to the Wise Traditions St. Louis registration form.  The prices for the beautiful hotel are fantastic, by the way.  Super inexpensive if you have a friend or two to share with.

I can’t wait to finally see St. Louis and I hope to meet you there too!

Any chance you might be going to the FundRAISER dinner afterward? My husband and I can’t afford the conference, but we’re dying to meet you! You have made such an impact on our health through your blog. Hope to get to see you!

Sometimes there is a short period of time where weight gain occurs when traditional diet is adopted as the body experiences *disbelief* if you can call it that from finally getting enough nourishing fats after being starved of them for so many years … Once the metabolism adjusts to the wonderful fats weight should back off after a time. Be sure you have reduced your grain consumption in proportion calorie wise to your increase in the wonderful, wholesome fats. This is another typical reason why I see folks gain weight at first when they transition to a traditional diet.

I want to hear about the food when you get back. I am a chef/pastry chef and only a few months along on my Real food journey. I feel so much internal conflict at work but have made amazing and rewarding strides at home personally and with my children who are 9 and 13. They both love to drink beef broth now;) At work we mostly do catering and I can’t stop thinking how cool it would be to attend or cater a real food wedding. I day dream about the menu all the time. So, I’d love to know what they serve at the conference. Thanks

I would love to come. I can drive from Indy but the cost of the conference (especially for 2 of us) is just too cost prohibitive for us. I just can’t afford $500.00. St. Louis is a great place.
Such a pity that it is so close to me but just can’t afford that much. I will read your blogs to hear more about it. I spend a lot to eat better and I can’t eat legumes and grains so…

I am 5 hours away in Kansas where (it seems) there are very few real foodies. I’d LOVE to go to this, but I’m working on my SAD husband. This could be just what he needs ( – : Question: Is there ever anything for children or is it an absolute necessity to find a week end babysitter?

Hi AB, I don’t know if the regional conference will have a children’s program or not .. contact to check.

If you come, be sure to introduce your husband to me and let me have a little chat with him. I have a way of convincing people to get REAL with their diet :)

Thanks, Sarah. We may be pretty easy to spot. Just listen for the clandestine rustle of a chip bag or “splat” of a pop can opening as an embarrassed woman hides her blushing face in shame and pretends the man next to her is not her husband…

Don’t be embarrassed! Your situation is one so many people face today .. they want to make changes and the spouse is digging in his heels. Very much a challenge but one that can be handled with patience and tenacity on your part :)

Why does it seem that overall women are first on board with real food vs. SAD? Maybe it is just coincidence for the people that I meet.

Love St Louis! If you are bringing the kids- they have one of the best zoos in the US, and it’s FREE :) Have a great time!

My fiancee (who lives in STL) and I (from NW IL) registered yesterday!!! we are sooo excited! We have each been on our own path to a more traditional lifestyle for the past 3 years… and hope to continue/grow in that lifestyle as a family. SO LOOKING forward to all the information that will be presented on the Healthy Children track on Sundays talks. Last night I told him how THRILLED I am that we may “actually meet a few of our mentors.”— meaning you, Mrs. Pope!! :) I’m bringing my camera for sure!!

    Hi Sarah,
I was just telling my hubbie that we should go. I recently became chapter leader for my area in NC and I really want to go to this conference. I have been following your blog for 11/2 years just absorbing all the info I can and would love to meet you in person.
I do have a rather strange question- I was asking my husband if I volunteer my time to be ch leader, would a conference trip be tax deductible for us? I am waiting for the packet to come from head office so that info might be in there but thought you might know since you have been a ch leader for so long. Thank You Sarah!

Hi Teresa, I don’t believe so but contact the WAPF office at to double check.

As a WAPF member, you do get a discount on your registration, so be sure to take advantage of that.

Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks!

One caveat there .. if you have a business that is an offshoot of your volunteer duties as a Chapter Leader for example, you run a farmer’s market or whatnot, then the Conference would be tax deductible in that sense as it would be an educational opportunity to enhance your knowledge for more effectively running your business. But, it wouldn’t be tax deductible from the personal side of your taxes I’m pretty sure. BUT, I am not a CPA so be sure to double check!
