How to Best Swallow Cod Liver Oil (VIDEO)

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

swallow cod liver oil

In this nuts and bolts video, I show you exactly how I swallow cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil every day!  My kids take it the very same way.

That’s right.  I’m slugging it down for the whole wide world to see.

You now have no excuse.  This is how to get those critical nutrients A, D, and K2 every single day – quickly and painlessly.   You won’t get enough any other way more unless you eat pretty close to perfect and eat liver 2-3 times a week (who does?) so get a grip and start taking it already!  Ok?

If you have a child too young to take cod liver oil by spoon, you can always try the bottoms-up approach. This works very well for diapered children.

Price DDS.

How to Swallow Cod Liver Oil without Gagging

In the video below, I demonstrate exactly how to get cod liver oil down without gagging. This is the easy process I’ve used for years in our home and it works great for toddlers and adults alike.

Ideally, cod liver oil should be taken with butter oil for maximum benefit. You can get butter oil and cod liver oil from the best manufacturers here.

Once you have established this healthful daily habit, you will be shocked to notice colds and flus slowly disappear from your household. In fact, my oldest is almost 18 years old and no antibiotics have been used during his entire childhood or that of his two younger siblings. Yes, it is possible to raise children with zero antibiotics.  I’ve done it three times and learning to swallow cod liver oil so it isn’t a big drama every single day is a big reason why.

It was hard for me to swallow at first, but I’ve gotten so used to it I don’t think about it anymore. It does burn my throat occasionally, but that’s it.

Also, the Oslo Orange is really hard to take because it barely has any taste of orange at all. If I didn’t see the label I would’ve guessed it was unflavored.

I’ve used the “Salty Cod” flavor CLO and loved the taste so I had no trouble taking it. Last time I ordered, they didn’t have that so I got plain flavor. I’ve been squirting it into the back of my mouth with a dosing syringe and swallowing it down with some water as fast as I can. Disgusting, but doable. I miss the salty cod flavor a lot. As for the butter oil, for some reason, the texture just makes me gag. I can’t do it. Thank you for the video.

I have to agree that this way is the best. I’ve tried a lot over that past few months and your set up looks just like mine. I also mentioned above that a spoonful of peanut butter following it all helps with aftertaste if there is any.

Good point! This would help also for the 10% or so of folks who get a bit of a burn on the throat from the lactic acid.

I love your blog and check it every day! We have been taking 2 capsules daily of the combination FCLO and butter oil. But I am planning to go to the oils not in capsules so I can afford higher doses. Thanks for the demo of how to do it.

Two questions: Do you take it before or after a meal?
How is the high vitamin butter oil different from ghee or butter from grass fed cows?

That’s what I was wondering too. I can get ghee from grassed fed cows much more inexpensive. Does this work the same way Sarah?

Grassfed ghee is wonderful .. the butter oil is raw so additional enzymes is the benefit there.

Sarah, Have you seen any estimates of how much K2 is available in the high vitamin butter oil? I’ve searched around on the web and haven’t found any data yet.

I’m not sure either but it certainly is one of the highest foods in K2 around. Natto of course is the highest (see my blog on Gouda cheese). Grassfed butter has 15mcg per 3 1/2 oz and butter oil made from this type of butter would be even higher as it is very concentrated.

Sarah, it’s much faster to put all 3 into a glass with about a tablespoon of warm water (warm melts the butter oil). Then it’s just one gulp and follow with water. Also I throw mine in a jar together in the right proportion so I just take a scoop of all three and it saves time. Simplified version…

    1. Mix proportionately all three in a jar and put in the fridge
    2. Do the math figure out how much you need of the mix
    3. Get a glass with a LITTLE bit of warm water and put your scoop in.
    4. Drink quick and chase with water.
    FAST & EASY!

I’ve tried this before and it makes me gag. The water having a taste is really gross to me and mixing them together makes it worse. LOL Also, you have to warm the water on the stove (I don’t use the microwave) so that adds time too. The way I show in the video is the fastest for me for sure and I get no taste at all chasing with water.

Hi there. I was having trouble stomaching the fermented CLO so I finally broke down and let myself buy the FCLO/BO blend capsules. Plus this was the ONLY way to get my husband to agree to it, and he still complains about it! I’m wondering if I take 4 capsules/day of the blend, is this a sufficient dosage? Thanks!

I have no problem taking it. Any ideas on how to lessen the flavor of burping after. Today for some reason it was several hours after that I was still tasting it. It seemed no matter what I ate the only thing I was tasting was the oil :/ Maybe because my body is not use to it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You might try digestive enzymes of some sort or maybe Swedish bitters. I started taking HCl and this helped.

I have found that a spoonful of peanut butter does wonders for lessening the burping flavor. I’ve been taking this stuff for a only a couple months and still burp all day long afterward. Maybe some of us are just more prone to that sort of thing… Try the peanut butter.

Someone told me she takes it in the morning 20 min before breakfast on an empty stomach with a small glass of lukewarm milk. That takes care of the burping flavor for her. I haven’t tried this personally since I don’t have a problem with the burping flavor, neither do I know if taking it with milk is really a good idea … does it mix well scientifically? But for her it works great!

I always chase my FCLO with a glass of raw milk or yoghurt, and I never have any trouble burping it up.

Hi Sara — I couldn’t see from your video the exact butter oil that you use. Could you let me know, as this is a whole new world to me. Thanks so much!

I like them all. I took the Raspberry flavored in the video, but that’s because that is what I had at the time. The Butter Pecan is nice too. But, the plain is easy to take as well … they all taste, well like butter!

Anything that tastes like butter, I am good with. 😀 I have been known to eat some raw, grassfed butter straight off a spoon when I need a little snack!

    Sarah,
If you could only afford one, would you choose the cod liver oil? My husband and I both take it everyday but right now we can’t afford the vitamin oil and skate. Am I making the best choice of the three? I love your videos! That was cute! I buy capsules because my husband won’t swallow the liquid.

The only problem with the caps is that you have to take so many to get a decent dose and this makes them much more expensive per dose. Since you are splitting the dose between the skate oil and the cod liver oil, it doesn’t cost any more to take it this way.
