My Most Important Food Storage Item

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

Why healthy fat is the most critical food storage item and which ones I perpetually maintain a one year’s supply in my pantry.

Pre-order a 3-pack of the exclusive 2021 EVOO blend for
delivery in late December to early January and get $10 off (not guaranteed to arrive for the holidays)

With food inflation and shortages on the rise, many of us are choosing to stay more stocked up than usual on the most essential dietary items.

For me, healthy oils are at the top of the priority list. This is because nourishing fats are the #1 most critical food in the diet according to anthropological evidence of traditional cultures.

My top four include cod liver oil, ghee, coconut oil, and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).

You can compromise a bit as necessary when it comes to other foods of limited availability.

When it comes to healthy fats, however, the best quality should ideally be on hand.

With that in mind, I wanted to give you a heads up that now is the best time of year to stock up on extra virgin olive oil direct from the farm.

Every November, I order a year’s supply of my favorite extra virgin olive oil from Jovial Foods. This is when the first crop is harvested and it is at its fresh-pressed best.

Participating in Jovial’s annual EVOO pre-order (find it here) not only ensures that I will get my 3-bottle set before supplies run low, but I also get $10 off.

This beautifully presented 3-bottle set lasts me for nearly an entire year’s worth of healthy cooking!

Ancient Trees, Old World Harvesting

I’ve had the privilege of visiting the small Italian farms and family-owned facility where the olives are pressed into Jovial Food’s EVOO. It is just minutes away from the groves where they were hand-harvested.

The trees that supply the olives are ancient varieties and hundreds of years old. Some date as far back as the Roman Empire!

Harvesting uses the Old World techniques of gently shaking the branches so that the olives are easily gathered without damage.

No heavy machinery is used as is common in large, modern olive oil farms where the trees are planted very close together.

Favoring the traditional approach preserves these ancient trees so no harm comes to them during the annual harvest.

Once the farmers transport the olives just a few miles away to the oil pressing facility, the temperature is tightly controlled.

This maintains the highest quality and fruity taste of the olive oil. In addition, it preserves all the nutrients including antioxidants, anti-inflammatory polyphenols, Vitamin E, and healthy monounsaturated fatty acids.

I filmed the video below myself to demonstrate the process for you!

By participating in Jovial’s annual EVOO preorder sale, you are supporting small farms, Old World techniques, and stocking up on one of the most essential healthy foods for your pantry!

Does this oil come in glass bottles or plastic? Hard to tell from photos, but looks more like plastic?

I already stocked up on plenty of this olive oil for the very reasons you said how they are grown and processed. I like it on avocados with cheese onions and pink sea salt. One of my favorites
    Thank you Sara

How long does the oil last? Should I only buy what I will use in a year?

The oil is in dark bottles, so kept in a dimly lit pantry (this is where I keep mine), it easily lasts for a year. I would suggest buying what you will use in a year. This has been my habit as it is nice to get the first press olio nuovo each Fall.
