car accident recovery

My friend Kim’s husband Larry was in a horrendous car accident recently. The picture above is of his completely mangled car shortly after the wreck.

He was stopped in traffic on the Veteran’s Expressway in Tampa in his 2012 Honda Accord when a white van slammed into the back of him going about 50-60 mph.

Larry managed to roll down the window to escape the wreckage and amazingly, he suffered only a broken wrist, a cut on his head and some internal bruising.

I think it’s a miracle Larry survived let alone walked away! The driver of the van was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away by ambulance.

A few days ago, Larry visited a conventional orthopedic doctor in Tampa to get his wrist set in a cast and to be examined for possible skeletal injuries elsewhere.

Kim was with Larry at the appointment and when the doctor asked if they took any supplements, Kim said that she took fermented cod liver oil but that Larry did not.

Kim also told the doctor that despite not taking fermented cod liver oil, Larry eats really well – all the processed food eliminated with organic, local farm fresh meats, dairy and produce.

The doctor then told Kim and Larry how he took cod liver oil every day growing up (he was in his 60’s).  He also commented that Larry’s diet would make a big difference to his recovery, by healing more quickly and more completely.  He was very supportive of cod liver oil in the diet and said that the Vitamin D would help Larry’s healing.

“Do you really think that helps?”, the doctor joked with them after hearing about their Traditionally based diet.  His comment was obviously sarcastic and meant to be supportive of what they were doing.

The best part of the visit was when the doctor actually voice transcribed the results of the examination and his recommendations which included Motrin for pain and fermented cod liver oil for healing!

When Larry said that he won’t take the fermented cod liver oil because it makes him burp, the doctor said, “you’ll get used to it.”

He also typed in these recommendations into the computer as his formal instructions to the patient.

Kim was very pleased that Larry needs to now start taking his fermented cod liver oil – doctor’s orders!

Larry felt great because the doctor validated their dietary choices and confirmed that his recovery would be helped along by their careful sourcing of their food.

Kim’s only regret is that their kids weren’t present to hear the doctor tell Larry to take his cod liver oil!

What a great story!  Even conventional doctors are starting to promote and validate the benefits of wise dietary and whole food supplement choices, particularly for car accident recovery and other serious, physically damaging events.

Wow! What a blessing that (I assume from your post) there was no one riding in his backseat!

Thank God, no. He took our kids to school every morning on his way to work and we used his car if we went out to dinner. He’d only bought it 8 months before. At this time of day, he never had any passengers and believe me, we are so grateful because no one would have survived in the backseat. It’s hard for me to look at the pictures which is one reason I haven’t read the comments til now. We bought a bigger car last week.

Okay, now I do not know what is the best thing to take. How much FCLO on a daily base do people take to get enough vitamin D ?

    Sarah,
I have been saving up to make a bulk order of FCLO from Green Pastures. The price was recently $25 per bottle for orders of 12 or more. I went today to check after reading your blog post, and I found out that the price has been dramatically raised, it is nine dollars more per bottle. I understand they often run out of product, and it is in high demand. But I am down right mad that this quality food is now out of my reach. If the price had gone up in a reasonable increment, it would not have been as impossible. But to raise the price nine dollars per bottle is just too much in my consumer eyes.

Do you have any suggestions on other brands, cost saving alternatives or sources?

(yes, I wrote to Green Pastures)
    Thanks,
    Lisa

That’s fabulous! But I would also suggest, because I it is what helped me heal, Dr. Christopher’s Complete Bone and Tissue supplement. My break didn’t heal after the first 6 weeks. Then a friend recommended this to me. I took it faithfully and healed in the next 4 weeks.

as i sit here typing this in PA, i am waiting for info from a hospital in VA on my husband’s condition. he was in a motorcycle accident a few hours ago and so far i know he has a compound fracture in his thumb and broke a bone in his mid spine. i was recently contemplating starting fermented cod liver oil with butter oil for myself. with this accident now i wonder if the fermented cod liver oil or the fermented cod liver oil with butter oil would be better for my husbands recovery. would you recommend one over the other? he refuses to take any supplements at all but may now change his mind. thank you for this timely post and your answer!

The fermented cod liver oil combined with butter oil has been found to be more synergistic. Note that Green Pasture also has a new blend of these plus coconut oil as well. There are various flavors that might make the idea more palatable. In terms of his resistance to taking supplements, it might help to know that many people consider this to be more of a food than a supplement (a whole, real food, rather than an isolated nutrient).

I take Spirulina, Greens and lots of other helpful powders and herbs. I have some Cod Liver Oil pills on the fridg and only take them once or twice a week but I will definitely start taking them every day.
