The Milk Cure 2012 (Day 1)

in Raw Milk Fast

Kitties Love Raw Milk Too!

How did your first day of The Milk Cure 2012 go?   Here are the thoughts and observations from Paula, Richard, and me as we began the 10 day journey.  Please post the observations and thoughts from your own fast in the comments section.   We all want to know how you’re doing!

Paula: Rough start to my fast. Had a computer crash the day before, car broke down and my ice machine broke.  Started my fast in a sleep deprived and semi-stressed state.  Very tired the first day and nearly fell asleep at my nail appointment mid-afternoon! I do think, however, it was more from the previous day and not sleeping well than the milk.  Worked out at noon like I usually do but it was a sub par workout due to fatigue.  I should have rested instead.  I seemed hungrier than I remembered being last year and I consumed 2 cup portions whenever I felt I needed them (based on hunger) which was about every 2 hours.  Other than being tired, life as usual.  Weighed in at 118.6 that morning and consumed 13 cups total for the day.

Richard:  As the day went on, I noticed inflammation in joints and muscle inflammation decreasing. Digestion felt light and unburdened by drinking only raw milk.  Felt a little low on blood sugar at some points during the day but drinking a cup of milk quickly alleviated this problem.

Did 1/2 hour of gentle bouncing exercise on our blue exercise ball about 10pm.  Only drank about 6 or maybe 7 cups of milk the whole day (plus herbal tea and homemade kombucha).

Slept very well.

Sarah:  Am ready to go!  Starting weight is 123.5 lbs.   First time I’ve weighed myself in months.  I don’t own a scale, so will have to go to the same supermarket every couple of days to weigh myself.

Drank my first glass of raw cow milk at 8:30am after letting it sit on the counter for an hour.  I plan to let each glass I drink sit for at least an hour on the counter before drinking it so that I don’t put really cold milk into an empty stomach which is not good for my Ayurvedic dosha (Vata) which prefers warm to hot food and drink as opposed to cold.

Took my regular daily dose of fermented cod liver oil and butter oil after drinking my first 2 cups of milk.

By noon, I’d had 4 glasses and felt pretty energetic.   Did some semi-strenous yardwork for about an hour as it was so beautiful outside and wanted to get some sun and fresh air.

Got super hungry just after 12:30.  Had 2 glasses of raw goat milk on the counter so sipped those down pretty quickly and the hunger pangs subsided in a few minutes.

Took an hour and a half nap from 4-5:30pm as I was feeling a little tired and a little headachy which worried me some since this can be a sign of low blood sugar for me.   Got up and drank 2 more glasses. Have had 10 cups by 6pm.  No more headache after the nap.

Cooked dinner for the kids and it wasn’t too much torture although I really wanted to eat.

Prayed and meditated at sundown that Vernon Hershberger’s hearing goes well.

Took a baking soda bath to relax and rest.  Started to get hungry again after the bath.

Finished 3 quarts by 9pm.  Was really hungry even after finishing the 12 cups for the day.  Not sure if I should drink more milk because I really don’t want anymore but I don’t want to be hungry either.

Had a cup of herbal tea at 10pm.  Not feeling hungry anymore.  Went to bed at 10:30pm.

Can’t believe I made it through Day 1.  I’ve never made it through even one day of a fast before with no solid food at all.

Oh I made it until about 2pm – then I had some ice cream and some leftover meat loaf. BUT I am still drinking raw milk like it’s going out of style and it makes me feel grrrrreat!!!

It’s nearly impossible to get raw milk in Central Iowa. I’ve tried and tried with no luck.

You are such an inspiration to me! I intend to do a milk fast when our grass starts to grow which will be in about a month here in Ohio. I am watching closely how your journey goes to pump myself up for mine. Keep up the good work!

I started a little earlier with the fast. The first day…really no hunger but I did feel a little light headed if I didn’t drink some raw milk often. I added a 1/4 cup of cream to every 2 cups of milk and that helped alot with hunger pains. I think I drank close to 12 cups of milk by the end of the day. I was happy to see that I had no cravings for bread or sugar. A little tired through out the day but slept well. I noticed too that my joints felt much better. In fact, yesterday I didn’t do the fast and last night my hip joints hurt enough to wake me up. Back on the milk today. Not concerned about weight loss but would like to conquer cravings.

I had a really rocky start, if you can even say I started. Yesterday morning, I had a cup of herbal tea in the morning, because I really need to start my day with something hot. It was super hard to avoid the coffee, even though I only ever drink decaf. By mid-morning, I was exhausted and had a growing headache. But I was getting ready to go out of town. I had 2 cups of kefir mid-morning, which helped with my hunger, but my headache continued.

About an hour and a half into my two-hour drive, I realized I had left my milk at home! But since I’d already committed mentally to starting a fast that day, I decided to fast with herbal tea, and a little fruits and vegetables. I did end up having 1/2 a cup of decaf coffe in the evening because my headache was so bad, and that helped take the edge off. Apparently, even only drinking decaf, my body is so used to having a little caffeine that it affected me.

I wont be back in town until tomorrow, so today I will just continue to drink herbal tea, and eat a few fruits and vegetables. I’m looking forward to getting some raw milk in my system tomorrow.

I am on day 4 already. I am having plain yogurt and kefir as well. I have never felt extremely hungry, though I really would like something to eat! Have not noticed any major physical changes, but am dealing with some constipation so I’m trying to drink more water. I am down 4 pounds, which I am glad for as that is the main reason I am doing the fast.
I am actually contemplating staying on this fast until I have reached my ideal weight, which would be about a fifty pound loss. Anyone know if that would be okay??

Reply

Sarah, The Healthy Home Economist March 2, 2012 at 11:10 am

Rachel, a warm water enema will completely alleviate the constipation. Constipation is dangerous and poisons the system so don’t let that go on too long. Enemas are the safest and best way to deal with it as opposed to pills and powders from the store. Enemas are also really easy to do (an enema bag is about $10 at the local pharmacy) and what the Mayo Foundation utilized during its implementation of The Milk Cure.

Rachel,
There are several accounts mentioned online that describe people who have lived on nothing but raw milk for years. I’ve got 50# to lose also and if I didn’t have to prepare meals for DH & DS I might stay on it for awhile too. I’ve already lost 2.2 lbs after only two days so I am pretty psyched about sticking with it for the 10 days (or maybe longer :-) .

In Ron Schmid’s The Untold Story of Milk he talks about a gentleman whose throat was burned by lye as a 2 year old child. He was physically unable to eat any food and drank raw milk exlusively his whole life. He was about 50 or so at that point. He was not only alive, but was extremely healthy, was a successful businessman and had never been ‘down’ because of an illness. I thought that was just about the coolest thing I had ever heard in my whole life!!!

I had a pretty busy day for my 1st day. I let my milk sit out until it got a little warm. I filled my glass to what I thought was 2 cups, but found out it was 3. That is ok. I have decided that I am not going to be too picky on measurements. If I loose weight that will be a Blessing, but if I don’t I am OK with that. I took my FCLO, my meds that I am decreasing and drank 1 glass of water as well. I had to do 1 breathing treatment. I am a little worried, but am pushing on. I poured some milk in my thermos as was out the door with the kids. I also brought water with me. I was in the heat a lot day. Didn’t have to use any inhaler, but did feel light headed. I drank little sips throughout the day along with large glasses of water.
I came home and took a 1 1/2 hour nap. Got up and was feeling pretty good. Made dinner ( really would LOVE to taste it!! but used my daughter as the seasoning tester). Had another glass of milk and green tea. Fell asleep rather quickly( which is great for me). Looking on the whole day, I have drank about 1/2 gallon. I will need to tweak this a little tomorrow. But am happy that I have only used my nebulizer only 1 time today!!! So, all and all it was a GREAT day for me!!

I had a great first day. Have not felt great lately and actually felt better just drinking milk. I have never made it a day without solid food either, and have been having super bad sugar cravings lately, but none to speak of after a day of milk! I did really really want to eat when I smelled the kids dinner, lol, but left the room so I didn’t smell it and it passed. I did get some digestive enzyme pills to take with the milk since I’ve recently developed problems with the lactose and didn’t have access to any kefir grains to culture the milk. They worked like a charm, hope they don’t alter the healing process at all. I need to drop about 15 pounds, did not gain or loose any today after drinking 3 quarts of milk. I wanted to drink less, but felt I needed to drink whenever I was hungry or I wouldn’t stick to the fast. We’ll see how today goes, I’m excited!

I had a good but kinda rough first day also. I have been running around like a crazy woman for the last 24 hrs. Field trip with the school, errans, school program at night just a lot going on. I had a headache off and on but think it was from exhaustion. I only had milk and water. I am wanting to loose some weight and am not sure how much milk I should have but decided to sip it when I got hungry. I think I had about 5-6 cups of milk. I never felt too hungry and slept great. Now I am ready for my 2nd day.

Tina March 2, 2012 at 11:18 am

What if you guys added some herbal tea with a tablespoon of coconut oil in it? Might help with the hunger. Or is that not allowed?

Watching with huge interest. Our grass is not in yet so the raw milk I can get right now is not as healthful as spring milk. May try it then.

My version of the milk cure includes raw cheese and raw kefir. Perhaps these inclusions defeat the purpose of the fast, but I’m trying it anyway. So far, so good.

good job ladies! I can’t participate fully at the same as you for a couple of reasons (will be traveling for 10 days starting next week with no access to real milk, and still looking for a source for more than the one gallon every other week I get in east Tampa). I have been having some stomach issues, mostly sluggish digestion, lately so a couple days ago I decided to do a liquid fast and it ended up being a raw milk fast. I was shocked at how well I did! As long as I could have a big glass of milk when I felt hungry, I was happy. I added a few spoonfuls of coconut oil throughout the day and water with lemon and all was good! I’m excited to be able to do this when I get back.

I am planning on starting Monday the 7th when I get my milk delivery. I see Richard had kombucha, and that you took your cod liver/butter oil as usual. I didn’t know we could do that…..am wondering if either of those affects the results of a “cure” in the gut? I know kombucha is a cure all its own, but will it affect the “all milk diet” results? Thanks for the input, I am a real newbie at most of this, just finished my first batch of kombucha yesterday!

This is a personal journey. It is not a cure for me or Richard nor Paula as we are doing it primarily as a seasonal cleansing. Some folks who are trying to heal from chronic illness may wish to do more such as what you describe.

I see some people adding things like herbal tea, coconut oil, keifer, yogurt, cream, etc..were those things allowed way back when they did raw milk cure on those really sick folks who also needed bed rest and enemas? Also, do the other dairy products also have to be from raw milk too? Good luck folks!

Reply

Christine March 2, 2012 at 5:04 pm

I dairy products would have to be raw, otherwise you defeat the purpose. I make my own kefir from raw milk, so I am ok with drinking it during this fast.

This is exciting hearing everyone’s feedback. This is a question for Sarah. . . I like mine really cold. Could this be because of my primarily fiery Pitta dosha?

And isn’t that just the most adorable kitty you’ve every seen:) That’s Snittums and he’s almost 18 years old.

Reply

Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist March 2, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Pitta doesn’t negatively react as much to cold food like a Vata does but might want to let it warm just a bit as cold liquid on the stomach is still quite a shock to the system.

I started on Monday. It went pretty well for the first couple of days. A little sluggish, but drinking more milk helped with the blood sugar. But now I have a sinus infection, so I’m out! I guess I need to get back to managing an underlying yeast/fungus situation before I consume loads of dairy again. The milk was, however, awesome for my skin!

I started yesterday on the raw milk fast. Felt good all day, I am wanting to loose that little muffin around my mid-drift, and fasting has always helped with that, but I have never done a raw milk fast. I was pleased that I did not get hungry as long as I drank the milk right when I thought I might start to get hungry. However, was a little bloated during the night right before bed, and had a little headache. What would cause that? I wasn’t hungry this morning, and have felt good, I slept good. Hoping this will help with a little weight loss and help my skin. Thanks!

Megan March 2, 2012 at 12:23 pm

My first day was great! I’m so excited to be doing this with all of you. I was a little worried because I work full-time and also have regular evening commitments so I can’t be very restful. I prepared for this by packing 2 quarts of raw cow milk to take to work. I also drank filtered water, and raspberry & nettle leaf tea. I drank about 3 quarts of raw milk total for the day.

Felt great all day. I already noticed that I feel lighter and more conscientious. I like taking a break from planning meals, cooking and cleaning the kitchen. I don’t yet have kids to cook for, and my freezer is full of individual meal sized traditionally prepared dinners for my hubby. I think being able to remove myself from food in that way is going to prove very helpful for this fast. However, it’s somewhat difficult hearing about food at work. You never notice how often people talk about food on a day-to-day basis till you are fasting!

One thing I am watching for: I expelled alarming amounts of mucous on day 1. I have had this problem off and on for years, and am hoping that the 10 day fast will cure it.

Thanks everyone for your support!

I lost 4 pounds even with eating dinner. I tried to start yesterday, but tried a new recipe so ate dinner again. I am terrible. We will try again today.

Through doing a lemon fast and observing others 2 years ago, I wish to add some encouragement.

During this fast, you will be releasing toxins, as that is part of what a fast is. To release the toxins, you want to insure that that you are hydrated and going to the bathroom. It is important that the toxins can leave your body as they are released from your cells. If you find yourself dehydrated, the toxins can start recycling in your system.
With a milk fast, I know there is a difference in what I did and what you are doing. Though the need to pay attention to your fluids is important. I guess I am also writing this with concern for rapid weight loss. I don’t know what ‘rapid’ is for an individual. I just wanted to note that if you lose weight quickly, insure that the toxins are getting out and not recycling. The liver has to do double duty.

I am sending so much Love to you. Raw Milk, to me, is like manna.
What a great way to be loving your self.

My husband has had chronic Lyme disease for over 11 years and currently treats it with supplements, vitamin C, RealSalt, home-brewed Kombucha and homemade herbal tinctures along with the occasional Rife treatment. We started the milk fast two days ago. We are fortunate to have an unlimited supply of fresh organic raw milk since we are organic dairy farmers. However, being a farmer, my husband has to be very active and physical every day and he is struggling with the fast. By afternoon yesterday he was feeling woozy and headachy and very tired despite constantly drinking milk. He finally gave in and ate some fruits and veggies last night. Any suggestions to help him keep it up?

Reply

Christine March 2, 2012 at 5:09 pm

I would say he needs more calories and fat. Increase his milk consumption to account for his high activity level, and maybe add straight cream to each glass.

Joy March 2, 2012 at 12:59 pm

My first day went well. The biggest hiccups were that 1) I didn’t bring enough milk to work and ended up getting hungry and having low blood sugar in the afternoon and 2) that I didn’t realize how dependent I am on my morning cup of black tea. It is the only caffeine I have all day, and I have always thought, “Oh, it’s just tea, and there’s not much caffeine, so its fine.” Well, let me tell you I was tired yesterday morning! As the morning went on, I woke up and the feeling went away. However, I am a teacher, and those first few hours of class were sluggish!

But so far, so good! I did not feel intensely hungry or really deprived. I did keep finding myself thinking about food and having to remind myself that I was drinking milk. (Just this morning I was planning what I’d have for breakfast and then remembered… oops! no food!) I did miss being able to eat dinner with the family, but I sat and talk and drank milk while they ate. Tonight I have a church small group meeting, so we’ll see how that goes with me just sitting around while everyone eats. Also, I have not had a bowel movement but maybe my body is adjusting. I feel good and have never had a problem with constipation, so we’ll see.

I had a great start. I drank a quart throughout the morning and another quart throughout the afternoon. I was down one pound this morning. I am weaning myself off coffee by adding more raw cream to it each morning. When I get to half coffee, half raw cream, I think I will be able to give up the coffee completely. I gave up iced tea a couple of weeks ago, which I had been drinking instead of water. My daughter noticed this morning that the blotchiness I usually have on my face is now gone. Although yesterday was my first day of complete milk fast, Monday through Wednesday of this week I drank raw milk for breakfast and lunch. I have lost five pounds total this week. I think a lot of it is fluid. My bladder is sending me to the bathroom more frequently, even though I am not drinking anything but milk, and the most I have had in one day is two quarts.

Day 1 was a good day, was a little hungry as I stuck to 2 quarts cows milk and I found myself not drinking water. Took an ES bath and slept fairly well.
Today I started with a glass of water and am drinking goats milk. My stomach feels a little achy, not sure why and I have a slight headache. The inflammation in my fingers has not subsided nor the achy bursitis in my hip.
I am going to buy an enema bag today. Is there anything besides warm water I should but in the the bag?
Oh, and I had a one pound weight loss. But, I had an unexplained weight gain of two pounds the day before I started, so it isn’t that great.

I started 2 days ago and in general it has been going really well, which is surprising considering I don’t digest milk all that great. I have found that if I don’t complicate milk digestion with other foods, my body seems to do pretty well. I’m an acupuncturist, so this is going to have a bit of Chinese Medical spin to it…
My digestion tends to get a little on the “damp” side, something I can tell by the coating on my tongue; namely it can get thick. Milk usually exacerbates this, but so far has been good. My tongue has gotten paler, which means I’m struggling to convert the milk into blood. I’m an O blood type and generally eat a good amount of red meat, so last night I had some beef broth to supplement the milk. And I found myself craving salt! I’m less thirsty today which may mean that the dampness is building up and my body isn’t as able to tell when I’m thirsty, so I’m going to try and drink more water today as well. Stats: about 10 cups of milk a day, not sure if I’ve lost weight but I have noticed my belly isn’t bloated at all, sleep and digestion are fine.
Thanks so much for the inspiration to try this! I’ve done all kinds of cleanses and this is a new one. Definitely easier to not eat than on a juice cleanse- yay!

Day 7 went pretty well… I think I must have had some good detoxing going on, though… I was feeling pretty lousy about 6 last night and getting really frustrated with it since I’d felt so good for the whole week. Then (TMI alert) I had two bathroom trips in just over an hour and both urine and bm smelled awful. Almost immediately afterward, I felt fine again! I haven’t lost any more weight since the first 3-4 days, but someone commented that my face looked thinner :) Still no real cravings, really… at least none of the distracting kind. I’ve slept heavy every night, which is not always the norm for me.

I drank 2 cups every 2 hours and consumed a total of 3 1/2 qts– I never felt hungry and was only mildly tempted to eat some of the asparagus I made (for everyone else) for dinner! I slept great last night! I have also been “Earthing” alot and have found my varicose veins are looking so much better and I do not have the ‘general inflammation’ that I chronically dealt with before—- ‘Elimination’ has been normal but more frequent—- Yippee! I am just on day one today. I read some were starting later due to location and cows still on hay. Well, I bought 5 gallons of milk and ordered goats milk for the first time so even though I am in Michigan I will do this. If it goes well, I’ll try again later in the year to see if there is a big difference. So far, I feel kinda tired and I really want to eat something, but I’ve put everything in the freezer so I won’t be so tempted. I only have 2 quarts till tomorrow so I think I’ll have to go get some yogurt. Not sure Whole Foods sells raw but I’ll have to do something to get through till the rest of my milk arrives tomorrow. Good luck everyone

I would love to try the raw milk diet. I consume raw milk now but I don’t get near enough to do the diet and it is rather expensive. How do you all afford to purchase the 3/4 to a gallon a day that it takes to do this diet?

Reply

Seana March 2, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Debbie,
Keep in mind that if you aren’t purchasing food to eat, you have that money to spend on raw milk. Even if the raw milk were $8 per gallon, that would “feed you” for the whole day. I bet you spend more than that on food.

Reply

Megan March 2, 2012 at 3:36 pm

I paid $4/gallon at my milk farmers. For 10 days, that’s only $40. I guarantee that my regular food budget is way more than $40 for 10 days!

Here is my question: I am taking synthroid. Somehow, I feel that doing this raw milk fast (for me) will be a cleansing, healing, and weight loss fast. Does anyone have advice or personal experience they can share concerning synthroid? I feel like this would be a wasted effort unless I’m off all synthetic meds first. Has anyone had success when they stopped taking synthroid and attempting to heal their thyroid naturally and with diet? (My endo would not even entertain my “crazy” notion of stopping synthroid to even see if there could be a positive change in my numbers- I left her office pretty angry last week. I’m not sure I will be returning, and I’m sure NOT filling her ridiculous prescription for Vit D….fix one side effect by taking yet ANOTHER med? NO WAY!

My own experience with Synthroid was horrific…I had six weeks of bodily infections and serious cognitive problems, along with a huge rise in TSH. I tried natural thyroid hormone (Armour) unsuccessfully which I think is the best thyroid med, but I take T3 only now and it works well. I’d love to heal my thyroid naturally, and have been working on it for a couple years, but so far it hasn’t happened. I’ve healed a lot of other things, so maybe I just need to be patient. Make sure your vitamin is D3 and not D2. Doctors usually prescribe D2 which isn’t good for you. You can buy it over the counter just as easily as filling a prescription. I can’t seem to raise my D levels with sun, diet or pills.

I was on Synthroid from the time I was diagnosed with hypothyroid to the time I decided to try other things. I first took a homeopathic table that you chew for a while, then quit using that. I’ve used kelp and extra virgin coconut oil, and have recently started taking Raw Thyroid(Raw Throid Glandular Concentrate with Synergistic Complex and distributed by Natural Sources), a supplement I ordered from Amazon. It’s a capsule, and I take half a capsule a day, empyting it into kefir on one day and taking the other half the next. It’s reasonably priced and is from New Zealand, bovine and free of pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, and chemical additives. I’m basically treating myself as I haven’t been able to afford thyroid testing or physician’s fees.

Suzanne,
Unless you’re spending a fair amount of time in the sun each day, you may need Vit. D3. Our Dr. healed her Hashimoto Disease with food and supplements. I’d be angry in your shoes, too. If I were you I’d be looking for a Natural Doc and asking about supplements and what food you can eat to help your thyroid.

I’m on Day 3- I commented on Day 1 in a previous post :)
Yesterday was pretty rough for me. I woke up with a headache and abdominal cramping. I was worried about constipation, but after drinking my first 2 cups of milk found that it wouldn’t be a problem! About 10am, I felt more like myself and the headache/tummy cramps were gone. I was run-down the rest of the day and ended up going to bed early ( I drank 2 1/2 quarts total). Last night I slept for 10 hours straight- a record for me. Today, I am feeling refreshed and ready to go. I think my body was just getting back to its natural rythm. I have had 4 cups so far today and am looking forward to tomorrow :)

Morning of Day 2 and feeling maybe a little light-headed but actually quite fine! Was surprised to see I only drank 1/2 a gallon yesterday. Was just going by interest and I just didn’t want any more than that. I just kept my glass full on the counter and sipped whenever I wanted. I didn’t sit with the family at dinner time which made it a little easier that they were eating a yummy stir fry (although I had to cook it). At 9pm last night my husband asked how I was feeling and I was delighted to report that I felt “light, clear headed and energetic!” He said I looked like I was glowing and I laughed because I didn’t think the Milk Cure could do anything that quickly. We’ll see after a few days.

Sleep was awful but that’s normal. Only got 5 hrs. from midnight to 5am. This morning I am stinky! (underarm body odor) TOTALLY NOT NORMAL! I do not EVER sweat! Last night I actually considered getting up to change my clothes from being damp. Is anyone else sweating more than normal? or smelling bad? I’m sure the smell is a slight detox. Really wishing I had use of a sauna during this thing….I don’t like the idea of sitting in my tub for a bath as I don’t have a dechlorinator on it.

Will be looking into how to do an enema today. Did not have any BM’s yesterday and am already constipated from my low thyroid. Don’t want this to become an issue.

Love having the support of all you all!

I’ve noticed I’m hotter than usual… especially in the evenings.

You know what? Me too. But then again, the past couple days have been really warm in our neck of the woods so was chalking it up to that. It cools down tomorrow so will see how I feel then.

The natural way of eating is new to me and I’m in the learning stage. I read the Milk Cure posts with much interest. I decided to try The Milk Cure for a specific health problem. I have interstitial cystitis, (inflammation of the bladder). Eating any fruits or acid food cause extreme pain.

So yesterday was day one on the milk cure. It was a good day. I had a party in the evening that required me to be there. I was strict raw milk all day until the party where I had a very small portion of chicken/veggies. I felt bad eating but it would have been rude not to taste something. Though not the reason for the milk cure, I did lose 2 pounds even with the chicken and veggies last night.

Today, I ventured out to the local goat farm and bought a gallon of raw goats milk. Never having tried it before I was surprised to find I enjoyed it much more than the cow’s milk. I’m not hungry but I am feeling tired. I wonder if it’s not the weather which is dreary today.

As far as amounts, I’m not measuring but I’m guessing by the looks of the milk jug around 3 quarts yesterday.

I’m enjoying reading the posts. Blessings to all.

Hi! I’m also a Christine with IC. I did this fast for 6 days last year and all my IC symptoms disappeared! They returned after a few weeks, but it was a nice respite.

I added the E to my name so we won’t be confused. I know they say IC is common but I’ve never met anyone with IC. I thought I was crazy.
Do you know what triggers your IC?

Christine March 5, 2012 at 1:21 pm

I think it’s mostly coffee, black tea, and really acidic stuff like tomatoes and cranberries. Also if I get dehydrated, I immediately feel like I have an infection.

I also suffer from IC. I was going to start yesterday as well but had a flare and thought better of it. I’ll start in a couple of days. How long where you on the diet the first go round? Do you think that you will stay on it longer this time?

Anyway, good luck to both Christines.

I did it for six days. This time I’ll go at least 10, possibly more. And I’m adding liver detox tea, detox baths, and lots of rest.

Congrats to everyone on getting through day 1! I won’t be joining you as I don’t tolerate raw milk in any form. However, I’m curious if anyone has done a bone broth fast? I would imagine that I would have to add in the animal fats too to simulate the fats in the milk. Just curious.

I was eager to read this to see how things are going, early on. When I opened the blog and saw the photo of the cat I had to quickly scroll down. Sorry, I’m just not a cat fan and I don’t apologize for it either. So, once past that, I read the article and a few comments. I’m going to do this (for only 5 days though) in a couple of weeks. Right now our milk lady has Jerseys who are calving and the milk supply is just not there for me to do a full 10 days. She has a small operation and wants to keep it that way, even though there are certain times when she is a little short. Fine by me, the quality is excellent so I’m not complaining about an occasional sparsity.

But even 5 days should be a good indicator of how I might fare on a 10 day junket.

Bad start to day one :-( The morning went well but by afternoon I was showing signs of a stomach bug. Couldn’t tolerate anything, not even the thought of liquids. Spent the last 36 hours in & out of bed/bathroom. I’m assuming this really is a bug (which is doing the rounds here) and not such an immediate detox reaction to the raw milk fast? I was expecting to feel rough at some point but not immediately or so extremely…

Yes you can. Using some cultured milk is an acceptable variation.

Day 1: My journal…
My biggest worry is that I will forget I am on a fast, and I will eat unconsciously.
Just had my first class of milk – will drink it more slowly next time.

I had an awareness fairly early in the morning – I’m bored, what can I eat? Hmmm… interesting. It wasn’t like I was doing nothing but still had the thought.

I had to grocery shop for my family and prepared delicious food but I still just drank milk.

I did it. It’s almost bedtime and I feel good. A little edgy but I think that’s from being tired and other stressors. Throughout the day I’d feel myself thinking about food or having a thought of hunger or reaching for something, and then remind myself I’m on the fast – and go have a glass of milk. The milk is satisfying. I’m drinking it more slowly and savoring it.

Started the fast on March 1 with you all and it is going very well. I was very surprise that I wasn’t craving food. I’ve never been able to fast for more than 24hr. I am very over weight and am hoping to drop a few pounds, and feel that I will be able to. I very much enjoy the raw milk and am encouraged to stick with this. Aside from having a thick feeling in my mouth am having know side affects thus far. Drinking about 2 cup every two hours. Only today while making a meat for a friend was I tempted. Our son keeps asking “what are you going to eat Mommy” Looking forward to tomorrow.

Hi I,m in Australia so I’m now lunch time of day 3. Both my 14yr old daughter and I are attempting this milk fast. Day 1 was the worst. we’re also having some home made yoghurt and kefir neither of us were hungry. In the afternoon we both got a headache I resorted to a weak coffee to see if it would help it did’nt and i went to bed early but awoke at 4am with pounding headache that kept me awake so I resorted to a pain killer as it was getting too me. Day 2 and 3 no hunger NO HEADACHES have been drinking more water though. I think we’re settling in now. It would be nice not to have to cook from scratch for the other three family members and another three guests. My daughter says make sure you don’t cook any thing too yummy for them so I dont get temptered. We are hoping to start Gaps soon as DH has gut probs and DS learning difficults hope our determination will help spur them on.

I’ve done many pure water fasts, a few up to 10 days. This however, I would call a fresh milk FEAST, not fast. Fast means to abstain from food. And milk, like honey, is one of the few foods in nature ‘designed’ to be a food. Milk = food = feast.

Megan March 3, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Technically, though, this is not called the milk fast. It’s called the
Milk Cure.

BTW, soon as my farmer gets extra milk, I’ll join you in your milk ‘feast.’

Dh is now on day five of the fast…I’m reading behind where you all are and he started a day later. He’s doing well on it, drinking up to about 3/4 of a gallon per day. He hasn’t missed eating…it probably helps that he’s not preparing food. He’s gone to bed early at least once and has slept well for the most part. He seems to have had plenty of energy and is feeling well.
