So you got the shingles vaccine and still got the shingles?
SHAME on you!
It’s your fault!
You’re clinically depressed and you haven’t been taking your antidepressant meds, have you?
THAT’s why the vaccine was ineffective.
Now go home, fill that prescription and don’t you ever THINK about not taking your meds again!
Sound ridiculous?
Apparently not as this is the conclusion of a major, double blind, placebo controlled study published online this week in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
In this study, 40 elderly subjects with major clinical depression were compared to 52 age and sex matched controls with no history of depression or other mental illness. Cell-mediated immunity to the herpes zoster (shingles) vaccine (VZV-CMI) was measured prior to vaccination with the shingles vaccine or a placebo at then again at 6 weeks, 1 year, and 2 years postvaccination.
Researchers found that depressed patients who were not being treated with antidepressants (SSRIs) had lower cell-mediated immunity to the shingles virus. Consequently, these people has reduced response to the shingles vaccine when compared with patients with no history of depression or those who were depressed but were receiving treatment with antidepressants.
Amazing how a major, double blind, placebo controlled study could come up with such a ridiculous conclusion given that antidepressants don’t even work in the majority of cases!
According to Nora Gedgaudas, acclaimed researcher and author of Primal Body Primal Mind, antidepressant drugs only have about a 13% effectiveness rate, just slightly better than a placebo.
Moreover, for the small minority of people for whom antidepressants actually help, 30-40% of them will not find antidepressant drugs effective over the long term.
So what was the purpose of this “study” which is basically an attempt by the pharmaceutical industry to justify the pitiful poor effectiveness rate of the shingles vaccine as well as promote their equally ineffective SSRI drugs?
Clearly, the goal is to keep elderly people in the dark and encourage them using “the science” to continue lining up at their local pharmacy with sleeves rolled up to get the useless shingles vaccine. And, hey, why not scare them into thinking that they need be on antidepressants too for the shot to be effective (psst .. even though those pills don’t really work either).
As long as the public keeps buying this c&#p, bought and paid for scientists are going to stay knee deep in it, dishing it up for those of us who actually have a brain to laugh about.
Perhaps a nice, long cruise vacation on the sewage ridden Ship of Shame would help those who take studies like this seriously to realize exactly what they are being spoon fed about vaccinations in the name of respectable “science”.

It seems that every post of yours that I read, I end up standing up and yelling, “Amen!” Thank you for always saying what I’m thinking.
We have got to stop this madness! Perhaps educating people is the way to eventually stop Big Pharma as they seem to get more ridiculous as their profits dwindle, and then people will wake up and see them for what they really are.
I really wanted to highlight this particular study which is so insulting to the intelligence of anyone with a pulse because it is the GOLD STANDARD of studies … double blind, placebo controlled major study.
And, it is STILL a load of you know what.
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist\’s last post: Joke Study: Depressed People Still Get Shingles Despite Vaccine
oh em gee! i have no words….
It’s like the “time share” industry!
I don’t know after watching my mother suffer in so much pain for so long with the shingles it’s something I pray I never get. I’m not one for taking meds ect but I was considering this shot when I turn 60 next year
Debbie, there are many essential oils that alleviate the pain from shingles. Its worth looking into, just in case.
Sarah, isn’t there some link between the rise in chicken pox vaccines and the increase in shingles? Are chicken pox and shingles related?
Chicken pox and shingles are basically the same virus. Singles remains dormant in your system after you’ve had the chicken pox.
I wouldn’t doubt if there has been a rise, but we haven’t been vaccinating for chicken pox for THAT long, have we?
Just another chance for Big Pharma to increase their profits at our expense.
people today are stupid!!! they believe anything Big Pharma and the govt. tell them!!!!
Debbie Wilcox Don’t get the shot! You get shingles from lowered immunity and not only is the shingles shot ineffective, it will lower your immunity by introducing toxins into your body. Best to keep your immunity high by consuming sacred foods like elderly people in Traditional cultures practices. Raw grassfed butter, fermented cod liver oil, liver, pastured egg yolks, fish eggs, and some seafood.
Anything to not do studies that are actually necessary! I bet their solution is to now recommend or at least screen for a need for antidepressants in anyone who gets this shot! So ridiculous! Time to wake up to pharmaceutical crimes against humanity!
Seriously?? I just don’t even know what to say….
Good grief! Our medical “professionals” thought leeches were good, DES was safe for pregnancy, still advocate a low fat diet, prescribe diet drinks and food, and more and more and I want to vomit! Wonder how much longer before the AMA has to admit that they killed or harmed more than they helped with their “vaccines.” Hope I’m alive to c it but I’m beginning to think this one will not happen. What a crock. I have started using common sense as my ” gold standard.” I really have a hard time believing ANY study, period. Thanks for this even though I’m scraping myself off the ceiling.
Just to let you know if you got the chicken pox as a child, you have the shingles virus. If you have the shingles virus already why get the vaccine??? It makes no sense. I had the chicken pox as a kid and shingles at the age of 45, both not bad at all. And was never vaccinated for either.
I don’t believe people are stupid, they’ve just been so brainwashed by the big corporations and the government for so long that they’ve forgotten how to think for themselves. I saw a comedian once say, “In a new study it was found that people will believe anything you tell them if you include the words ‘In a new study…’”. Sad, but true.
And if shingles were to ever happen, there are many essential oils that help in faster healing, and reduction of pain.
ridiculous
makes sense to me, depression and low immunity both originate in the gut. Why not heal the gut so depression and shingles don’t come to visit?
Wow. Awful.
So far I do have a strong immunity system and I have a healthy diet most of the time. I do use young living oils.@Steveand what oils do you recommend? @Cathi my mother had the chicken pox as a child, she got the shingles in her 70s and it ruined her life for about 6 months.
I was thinking of the chicken pox vaccine the other day…I did not have the chicken pox vaccine as a child and had to miss a week of school when I got the chicken pox…I still remember how uncomfortable it was. I also remember a lot of friends missing school and that was just a part of growing up. Now children get a vaccine for it and I rarely here of kids missing school for chicken pox. I get that all of the other vaccines are for things that have not been around for along time and that we have improved sanitation and water supplies, but chicken pox have not been gone for very long. I here so much negative press about vaccinating, but isn’t it good not to get chicken pox?
First of all, the only way for them to really find this outcome is if they were searching for this outcome. What scientist would have actually thought of these two to be linked enough to do a study on it? However, I don’t see the results of this study saying people have a lack of drugs in their system. I would read it as people have a lack of happiness in their system. It’s more evidence that people are sad and sick today. They are trying to hide it and fix things with drugs. Don’t get me wrong. I know drugs have done many positive things. But the VAST MAJORITY of them are useless, wasted and toxic. I won’t even get started on this line of thought because it will go on for a while.
I agree with Kara about the gut. We all need to heal first and foremost and injecting toxins into our bodies is not the way to do it.
Actually, only 38 depressed subjects finished the study. I don’t think this is a large enough group to make a valid conclusion. There was a big difference in immune response between the depressed people taking meds vs. the ones not taking meds. But it would be more useful to explain why this happened, and it doesn’t mean that taking SSRI’s will improve your immune response (subject group too small, cause not explained).
Plus, the idea of vaccinating for shingles instead of supporting the immune system is wrong, of course. This vaccine is not very effective anyway, and it can do harm. Much better to support the immune system with good nutrition, fermented foods, etc. I’d use essential oils, herbal tinctures, high dose vitamin C, homeopathy, or even colloidal silver before I depended on a vax. I’m in my 60′s and haven’t had any vax for about 30 years or more. Not going to take this one.
All this study does is to raise questions. I think their conclusion could only be supported by a much larger study. But it’s a very strange concept, and I wonder how they even thought up a possible relation between SSRI’s and vaccine effectiveness.
At the end, they admit three limitations of the study. Here is one:
“Third, additional factors coincident with depression might
modulate VZV-CMI and contribute to these findings, including
psychological stress, intercurrent viral infection, or alcohol
use.”
–In other words, they didn’t control for these factors, which means that their conclusions are meaningless. There are probably many other factors that would affect immune response that they they did not take into account. The subject group was probably too small to control for such factors. The other limitations they point out seem significant, too. So this study was basically nonsense. Five of the authors are with Merck, and drug companies may be funding some of the other authors. Follow the money.
Interesting how the publishing article called it a “large” study isn’t it? You’re right … you can’t conclude anything from this study other than the intent which is clearly manipulation of public perception pf the shingles vaccine and SSRIs and encouragement of a certain behavior pattern of a targeted demographic which is the goal of many “studies” these days.
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist\’s last post: Joke Study: Depressed People Still Get Shingles Despite Vaccine
How can it be a “major” study if the study group was only 38 people? That is a ridiculous claim. They would need a much larger group, and they would have to control for the factors they mentioned, and more. In fact, this was a tiny, tentative, very crude study that means very little.
As someone else pointed out, there is a direct connection between gut health and immune function. There is also a direct connection between gut health, nutrition status, and depression. They would do much better to look at those connections, and they would come to conclusions that support a traditional diet like the ones this blog teaches about. But wait–there isn’t any profit in that for Merck, et al! And those studies have already been done by Dr. Price and similar people who were not so profit-driven.
So its a joke to say that stress causes a lowered immune system? If anything, this article is the joke.
Thanks for sharing that study and some common sense interpretation.
My family has always opted out of the pox/shingles vaccine, but we’ve had some interesting experiences with the virus anyway. Here are a few things to consider:
-Don’t kiss your baby’s spotty head when you have a big pimple on your chin, even if you have had many re-exposures since your childhood without a problem. Wow, shingles hurt. Lavender oil was a lifesaver then!!!
-Don’t let your three-year-old down half a bottle of oregano oil gelcaps (mostly olive oil) just as chicken pox are starting to form: Not that we MEANT for her to–she just got into the bottle and was munching away until I smelled it from the next room! That stopped the virus in its tracks! She never got another spot and her fever went away, but 7 years later she broke out in a patch of shingles (we’re told, because she never developed an immunity because of the oregano…?…on the other hand, she was also around a friend who had just had her shots…hmmm…), which gave chicken pox to the rest of our brood who hadn’t had them yet (which WAS fine… not a terrible case). Plus my chin.
-Don’t let your little ones play in the sun all day for three days straight when you think they MIGHT be coming down with chicken pox… or at least, be aware that this will cause all skin that was exposed to be very, VERY spotty. However, those children had milder fevers and were able to eat clear through the illness. So maybe it’s better. I don’t know.
Really, if I could do it again, I wouldn’t trade the experience (and hopefully natural lifelong immunity!) for any immunization, however safe.
But from our experience I would say: DO use lavender oil, coconut oil, Redmond (or some other bentonite) Clay paste (so, SO soothing), and SOME oregano oil on the feet (use olive or coconut oil first!) and yarrow tea was great to relieve fever/aches. Garlic is also a great immune boost when you have pox/shingles… you’ll be home anyway, so no one will smell you, right?
Oh Wendy, I would love to get to know you better. You sound like your a great Mommy with an even greater sense of humor! Something very necessary as a Mom….your either going to laugh or cry as I say…and laughing is so much more fun!
Rachel…most often chicken pox is a very mild illness, and allowing our body to fight off certain illnesses is what makes it stronger. To me, vaccinating for something like chicken pox is like vaccinating for headaches…it’s just silly.
Stress causes acidity (Robert Young) which creates an atmosphere for disease to flourish. All disease.
Debbie Wilcox-don’t live in fear. It’s good that you’re aware but don’t fear something that hasn’t happened. There are many natural solutions and thehealthyhomeeconomist is correct about immunity and vaccines. So much info out there…naturalnews.com, mercola.com, dr tent on YouTube. Go arm yourself with the knowledge!
I am staying at my elderly parents home for an extended period of time right now and consequently watching more mainstream TV than I have ever watched. Been seeing all those shingles commercials and wondering about the vax. Thanks for the informative article and as always the comments added greatly to the information.
holly murphy\’s last post: A really big day in Rome (and an unexpected book review)
Rachel no I don’t think it is good to not get chicken poxs! Getting chicken poxs as a child is part of building a healthy immunity.
Their has not been one study done that indicates how long the chicken pox vaccine is effective :0/ but more than likely it is not forever. Plus the vaccine is a live virus and it clearly states in the insert that injected person should not b around immune compromised individuals. Their has clearly been am increased number of shingles cases since chicken pox vaccine is being pushed.
Tampering w all of these viruses just causes them to mutate into something g worse! :0(.
My husband has had shingles 3-4 times and while its not fun he didn’t miss any work. He does have permanent scaring in his one eye but again it didn’t ruin his vision. I am sure if effects everyone differently though obviously!
Sigh! I have noticed this in most cases. Anytime we get sick when we were not supposed to~or even when it happens~it is always our fault. If we would have just listened to “them”! If I would have listened to “them”, I would be sick. However, I was introduced to real food~the way God makes it~and I am younger and more vibrant that I have been in ten or fifteen years. Oh, those wasted years! But Praise God for cod liver oil and real food!
Right!!! Insanity to the core.
so poison doesn’t prevent disease unless I am poisoned regularly with other poisons. gross.
I would gladly take a vaccine against the randomized double blind clinical control trials nonsense! Gold standard indeed when results can be massaged to suit the funders..it is an enormous industry that keeps itself going…
Sounds about right for the pharmaceutical industry…I am never giving them my money. All holistic medicine for me and my family!
The big lesson for me from the tobacco trials, was that science is for sale.
Now, it is true that stress and depression can lower immunity and make one more susceptible to illness. They just convoluted it by introducing the vaccine and the SSRIs. I wonder what would have happened if they’d had a group being treated with cod liver oil instead of SSRIs? That would have been interesting to read…. I’m sure that those who are depressed ARE more likely to end up with shingles. But the vaccine and SSRIs are not the answer.

We’re they possibly depressed bc they still got shingles even though they recd the vaccine, also were they depressed prior to receiving the vax? or maybe the vax caused the depression? Maybe pharma wants to include anti-depressants for people who get the flu even though they recd the flu vax. Huge market! Also, shingles used to be rare in elderly or immunocompromised, now it occurs more often and in young, healthily people. Mercola has an excellent article on the rationale and it is related to passive immunity secondary to the chix pox vax.
Erin, the depression was diagnosed well before the study was run–before they received the vax. Otherwise, it would have been total nonsense. But they would not have even been published if they designed as badly as what you describe.
Would be helpful to hear your thoughts on what herbal remedies you all recommend? Please?
Omg! I have personal experience with this, my husband was diagnosed with TB last year and was on medication for 9 months after a biopsy surgery to confirm the type of TB strain and drug sensitivity. We went through a lot of stress because I was pregnant with twins and was not sure in the beginning if I was infected too, luckily was not. All this after having being vaccinated with BCG in childhood ( we are from a Asian counrty) and being tested for TB before entering America.
Why are the vaccinations made? Is it just to make people blind that everything is alright?
Me and my do not take any flu vaccinations and yet we never got a seasonal flu or even a cold virus for that matter, by eating wholesome food.
For the first time I refused flu vaccines for my toddlers in the last visit. I am proud I did.
With shingles, prevention is key … by keeping immunity high with consumption of the sacred foods as the elderly practiced in Traditional Cultures.
My 6-year-old nephew just got shingles after having the chicken pox vaccine. The doctor said he would probably never get it again. Seems pretty suspicious to me.
What does depression have to do with it?
this is funny, if it wasn’t so sad that some people actually will buy these convoluted arguments
you’re a star!
When science is for sale.
…wow!
Science has always been for sale!!!! ;(
Vaccines are toxic!
My mom had two terrible bouts with shingles. The second time was the horrific. It looked like her entire body had been burned. We were trying to find ways for relief and thought Epsom salt would at least help with the itching. Not only did it help the itching, but it help it heal.
FYI – The note you made is not included when you share. So, I copied and pasted it prior to sharing so it would show up for certain. You can’t see it by looking at it. You have to click cont. reading, in order to see it. ODD.
Sheree Rainbolt Kren FB can be so finicky sometimes!
Brenda, how did she use the Emsom salt, by soaking?
I understand that the internet search engines are saturated with pro-big pharma versions of vaccination studies…be careful about your research. I recommend http://www.thinktwice.com to get started. (oh for example of what I am talking about it compare thinktwice . com with thinktwice . org) accidentally spread around the wrong link recently :/
Chris another thing I like to do while on search engines and the searches come up one-sided bias…. I will add in “non-biased” with my search and it is amazing all the articles you see from the other side…. It is sickening how the FDA, Pharma companys, dental community, etc….. have taken over search engines but I was pleased when I found that little trick.
My Dr. told me it doesn’t prevent shingles the best thing is to keep your immune system healthy. Try, Raw, unsalted, sauerkraut with each meal. Use 1 T up to 1/4 cup. It is a super probiotic.
This doesn’t make sense to me. When you get a virus such as chicken pox….you build up an amunity and you don’t get them again. So why are people getting shingles when they come from the chicken pox virus? I know that the herpes virus can lay doment and surface years later but why doesn’t chicken pox? Call me confused. I guess the virus morphs somehow.
